"There used to be a dog in the world, a white English Bull Terrier.
He was stocky, but quick - an excellent dog to sleep beside a man's bed.
He showed a delicacy of sentiment. I have always wanted one of him."

Why Bull Terriers?

Both Diane and I, in previous lives, have always had house dogs, be they purebreds or mutts. However, it wasn't until the passing of our old faithful labradorX, 20 years ago, that we discovered the REAL DOGS! Life has never been quite the same since.

Bull Terriers are not the easiest of breeds, but they have a certain "Joie de Vivre" and craving for human contact that endears. They remain puppies until the day they die. A breed definately not for the faint hearted, but for us there is no other.

Catchbull Kennels are nestled at the foot of the majestic Southern Alps, in the South Island of New Zealand. We have 5 acres of park-like grounds where the Bullies are free to romp and play. They occassionally inveigle their way in beds and fireside baskets in the winter. In 15 years breeding Bullies we have shared a lot of success and a lot of heartbreak, however, we love the breed and will rise to any challenge it presents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your policy on contracts?

We do not believe in them. Your Bully is your own, however we may request a stud duty from your male but this is discussed when you purchase a pup.

If I purchase a bitch puppy will you ever want her back to have a litter?

No. If you breed a litter and we want a pup from that line we can request to purchase one.

Are your Bullies show dogs?

Our Bullies are bred with the very best intentions and careful consideration is given to pedigree lines. However, nobody can guarantee a top show dog.

Are your Bullies pets?

Yes, even our show dogs generally live as family pets. In fact, we encourage pet ownership.

If I go on holiday or get married, where can I leave my Bully?

With us, everybody else seems to.

If I have a problem with my Bully who should I contact?

With any problem (diet, behavioral, human) always contact us in the first instance. After 20 years experience with the breed we have heard of most problems, or will certainly refer you to the right contact.

What is my commitment as a Bully owner?

A Bull Terrier is not a disposable item. You need to be prepared for at least 10 years of ownership. You will require a property with adequate fencing. No Bull Terrier, especially puppies should be left unattended running free for long periods. A crate or similar set-up is mandatory. Start as you mean to go on. The Bully is a gregarious creature of habit, and bad habits are difficult to change.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to Catchbull Bull Terriers!
